Dear Friend,
After much prayer, meditation, and analysis, I have decided to run for the Miami-Dade County School Board District 2 seat. Why? Quite simply, I care about the children and this community. I believe our children and our public schools are our community’s greatest and most valuable assets.
I have first-hand knowledge of the budget and financial operations of the school district and the experience the community needs during these difficult economic times. My almost 28 years at Miami-Dade County Public Schools and myriad of professional and civic responsibilities have prepared me for this position for which I am uniquely and eminently qualified. I have also been afforded the opportunity to strengthen my knowledge of the District's core function: teaching and learning.
It’s crucial that this community is fully engaged in public education and not continue to sit back and wait for other people to do for us what we can and should do for ourselves. So, at this juncture of change in school district leadership, I would be remiss in not seeking this position on the Miami-Dade County School Board. I sincerely believe that together we can make positive change in education in our community. Our children deserve a quality education for access to a better quality of life. I can be their voice and your voice as the District 2 representative on the Miami-Dade County School Board.
As I continue this journey on this campaign, I look forward to meeting you and ultimately earning your support and your vote on August 24, 2010. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Woodard Byers
